Intervet in Asia

Intervet’s origins are rooted in research. A Dutch company, Nobilis, carried out studies in the 1950s in order to develop vaccines to combat various poultry diseases. A progressive Dutch animal feed manufacturer in Boxmeer, Wim Hendrix, founded this company with the simple motivation that “a sick chicken doesn’t eat!” His thinking was that he first needed to help his customers cure their chickens in order to be able to sell his feed products to them.
Fowl Pox was a frequent occurrence in poultry at that time. Hendrix contacted the veterinary department at the University of Utrecht and, with their assistance, the first inoculum against Fowl Pox was developed for the Nobilis company.
In 1961 this (poultry vaccine) company, Nobilis, was acquired by KZO (Koninklijke Zwanenberg Organon). After several mergers with national and international companies, the company name Nobilis changed into Intervet and the remit of the new company was far broader than just poultry vaccines. ‘Nobilis’ still exists as one of our most important product brand names, associated with all Intervet’s poultry vaccines. From that moment on, Intervet started expanding her activities across the world, firstly in Europe, followed by all other continents. During the last 30 years, Intervet has developed into a renowned veterinary medicine company and is now one of the top three global Animal Health companies.
In Asia, the first commercial activities date from the 1980s when business was predominantly conducted via local agents and distributors. Since then Intervet has set up dedicated commercial operations to more closely serve the various markets in Asia. Currently, Intervet has 11 local companies in all the important markets in the Asia-Pacific region, of which most of them have been operating for over 10 years.
Looking at the pace in which the industry is developing in Asia, Intervet strives to maintain her leading position in the Animal Health market by continuing to maintain close contacts with our customers. The landscape of our business is changing and this demands that the way in which we conduct our activities should also change. Key issues are our people and our processes. Our people working in the different countries will continue to provide added value to the businesses of our customers, not just by supplying our products but by serving the customers through offering high-quality solutions to their daily challenges.
